





7.5. The Future of Platform Regulation

You are warmly invited to The Future of Platform Regulation, hosted by the DECA project, on May 7 from 10:00–12:00, at the Faculty Room (P545), Faculty of Law (Yliopistonkatu 3, Helsinki).
The event brings together scholars and policy experts to discuss how platform regulation is reshaping freedom of expression, digital markets and the virtual public sphere.
Christopher Phiri, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Turku, will kick off the discussion with his presentation “Safeguarding Freedom of Expression in an Age of Disinformation Regulation”. His talk draws on insights from his latest book, "Political Disinformation and the Law: Safeguarding Freedom of Expression In Europe" (Routledge 2026).
Miikka Hiltunen, Senior Specialist at the Ministry of Justice, recently defended his doctoral thesis at the University of Helsinki on the topic "From Digital Single Market to Reining in Big Tech" and will share his expert perspective on regulatory developments.
Riku Neuvonen from DECA will present on virtualization of internet. His presentation is based on the forthcoming book "Real Rights in the Virtual World: Human Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality" (Edward Elgar, May 2026).
